Long Life

In the story "The Secret", it is definitely unfair to keep the discovery a secret to the people on Earth. People on the moon can live up to two hundred years old, but the people on Earth can't? If the people on Earth founds out this discovery, they would be very mad at the people working on the moon. They would be mad because it is very unfair that the people on the moon can have this advantage. People on Earth might start a riot and protest to the government about this unfair treatment. Some people think that it is good to live longer, but there are some bad things that might happen if you live longer. One of them is that you might get illnesses or other bad diseases easier. As you get old, your body gets older too, which means that you body isn't working that well compare to a twenty year old man or women. If I can live up to at lease two hundred years old, but all my friends and family members dies before me, it would be quite painful. All of the people you know died, that means you have no more friends to talk with, and they can't help you with something when you have problems. If this happens to me, I would rather die instead be able to live up to two hundred years old.

The Secret

In the story, it was not the first time Henry Cooper went on the moon. Henry Cooper was suspicious when he visited the moon because everyone is avoiding to talk to him. During his last visit, people are all joyful and willing to talk and to know him. This time, everyone was all quiet. Dr. Hasting had found out that living things can live longer on the moon than on Earth. Dr. Hasting showed Henry a ten years old hamster. It is really surprising to Dr. Hasting because a normal hamster can only live up to two years of age. There are other hamsters that is twenty years old. Henry also asked Dr. Hasting that how long would a human live on the moon according to this theory. Dr. Hasting was estimating about two hundred years. Dr. Hasting doesn't want to let this get known to the other people because news spreads very fast. He doesn't want people to know these things that are just discovered. If people know this, everyone would want to live on the moon because now you can live up to two hundred years old. Normally a human who can live up to about ninety years old are classified as long-living. Now on the moon, you can live up to two hundred years old. Which is a surprising and joyful news to the people.

Writing is DIfficult

To me, the statement "writing is suppose to be difficult, agonizing, a dreadful exercise, a terrible occupation." means that writing IS a difficult and dreadful exercise. Writing is difficult, but why would people want to do it as a job? It is because they enjoy writing. Because of your feeling towards the thing you liked, you will have more feeling of doing it. To me, writing is a very difficult thing to accomplish. You need to care about your grammar, your choice of words, and the way you write. These complicated things are all things that kept me from hating writing. There are some other things that is similar to writing, take a professional tennis player for example. Tennis is hard, and tiring, tennis players choose this as their job is because they love to play tennis. Because of their feelings towards tennis. Even though it is tiring and challenging, they still love to play tennis and compete with other people. Like I said, the feelings of you liking the thing, it can let you forget how painful it is to do that event. Being a professional tennis player is hard. You got to train in many different ways, they work very hard to be the top tennis players in the world. How did they do this? Because of their feelings towards tennis.

Chronological Order

In the story "there will come soft rains" the house was damaged and destroyed fairly quickly. After the tree fell on to the house, it started burning. The author is trying to say that wars is bad for people. It kills innocent people that are not involved in the war. Which in the story, the family. When the nuclear bomb was thrown, everything vanished in a blink. The family that was outside the house made a burn mark from the bomb. You can clearly see what they were doing. The dad was mowing the lawn, the mother was kneeling down picking up a flower, the two kids were playing catch, and you can even see the ball in mid air which the kids never get to catch. It is really sad how innocent people were killed with no reason.

Thankful

There are a couple things I'm thankful of, one of them is my parents. I am thankful to my parents for raising me up, giving me a good place to stay, buying things I need, feeding me good food, and for the last one took me to this school. The reason I thank my mom for taking me to this school is because, I made lots of good friends here. Friends here had helped me when I have problems and we all had fun together. Friends are one of the things that a person can not don't have. This made be bring up to another thing that I'm thankful of, which is friends. Friends are one of my most important peoples. I am a only son, so I hang out with friends more because i don't have any brothers or sisters to play with. Friends help each other, and that's what we do in school. We all had fun together, and when there's a problem or trouble, we all find a way to solve it together. These are two thankful things that I am thankful of. For things that I am not thankful of is work. Work is always a pain for me. I know that we need to practice things over and over again, but sometimes there are tons and tons of work for us students to do. It can take us a lot of time on it.

My Invention

There are lots of inventions that helped us to have an easier life. For example, elevators. Elevators can transfer people or things up or down to specific floors in a building. Without an elevator, people would have to walk on stairs to get to the floor they wanted. Another invention is the telephone, before telephones are invented, people had to use mail to communicate with each other. Now, we can just dial a number and you can reach your friend or family member.
If I am creating a invention, I would invent a computer that it can control almost anything on it. Such as, closing your window, turning on or off the lights, making calls with you voice, and managing all your things. It will look like a normal computer, but with projected screens. You can have a much bigger screen with a projected one compare to a normal computer monitor. You don't need a mouse for this computer, you can just tap on the screens to do what you want (you still need a keyboard). You can also use your voice to control the computer, such as telling it commands to do. The warnings for this invention is that you can get almost full control on the things you need in your daily life, so you wouldn't need to move as much as before. This may affect your health conditions.

New Technology

During our life now, we are surrounded by different kinds of technologies for different things. For example, I am using a laptop to type my blogger assignments and I am using electricity to power my laptop and to have the lights on. A hundred years ago, without these technologies, what would life be in that time?
Basically they would have to do everything themselves. Without the help of technologies, they would have to do everything in a different way from us. Take light for example, a hundred years ago, there are no electricity (even if there is, not a lot of people have it), people have to use candles to light up their way during night time. They can't communicate with each other comparing what we can do now. In our life, we just use a cell phone to call a friend or a family member. A hundred years ago, they don't have cell phones. They would need to use mail to communicate with each other. It takes more time and you would have to wait for the other person to reply, and wait for the mailman to deliver it to you. With all these technologies around us, it had made our life easier, but technologies are not always good for us. If we all rely on technologies to do things for us, we will end up not knowing any thing because we never need to do it.

Compare and Contrast Dogs

I have a friend that owns a golden retriever, and at the same time he owns another beagle. The two dogs have way different personalities. The golden retriever is a very hyper, energetic, and friendly dog. It comes to you when you get close to him. It wants you to play with him every time it sees you, or if you have something on your hand, it will run to you and to check out what it is. Which the beagle does too. The beagle is a more calm dog. It just sits or lies there even if you get close to it, but if you have food with you it might stand up and smell what you have. Sometimes when its more hyper, it mights comes to you when you get close. Both dogs likes to play catch when my friend walks them, but still, the golden retriever is a lot more energetic then the beagle. Sometimes the beagle just sit there when my friend threw the ball. Both dogs are really cute and friendly. Sometimes I go to my friends house when he is going to walk the dogs, We just chat on the way to the park. When we get there, we throw tennis balls to let the dogs get them back. It is really fun.

Knowledge of Dogs

In the story "In Trouble" the author said "they had great, old knowledge; they had something we had lost". To me, it means that dogs have skills and knowledge that we don't have. For example, dogs are great at hearing and smelling, we can't do that. Dogs can also tell wether foods are edible or poisonous, which we can't. They are born to do these tasks. Some dogs are trained to do special tasks such as guard dogs. They are trained to tell wether a person is or is not a person that they wanted. Dogs in airports, they are trained to tell wether a person's luggage has things that shouldn't be carried. People can sometimes learn from dogs, such as how they act. When you are nice to a dog, it will be nice to you because of what you did to him. Basically, dogs followed the golden rule every time. Which is treat a person the way you wanted them to treat you. For example, if you give a dog a piece of cookie, or you petted him today. He might come back to you and starting to play with you because he liked you because of what you did.

Describe a Place You Know

The place that I can't forget is when I was on a vacation in China. During the vacation, it was winter time, when we need to go to other places we need to ride on the bus. When we were waiting for the bus, the climate was extremely cold. The wind was like a cold blade, ready to slice your face off. You can literally felt the wind hitting on your face as you are standing. After a couple minutes in the wind, my face started to turn red and it started to hurt. The extremely cold climate with the wind was a horrible combination. You can hear the deadly wind blowing into your ears, it felt weird and cold when the wind blew into your ears. As the temperature drops, I started to can't feel my hands anymore. It is so cold that I can't feel my hands anymore, so my dad gave me a cup of hot tea to warm me up. You can feel the dryness in the air with your tongue too. I started feeling that my tongue is going to crack if I don't drink water. Eventually, it started hurting. The wind, the temperature, and the dryness in the air are all things that will make you want to go back to your hotel as soon as possible

The Influence of Setting

The setting of a story can affect on several different things. For example, if a story's setting is in outer space, you can roughly guess on what this story is about. It would probably be something about the future when people are living in space or maybe it might be talking about when humans first went up to space. Settings in a story can tell where and when the story takes place. Another thing is that, the setting and the plot should be matched. For example, you can't have a monkey under an ocean. It doesn't make sense at all. All the parts in a story fits with each other, everything have to make sense when it's put together. There are some writers that match plots with unmatched settings on purposely, they do this to make the story more unique, special, and easier to grab the reader's attention. Writers use different descriptive words to paint a picture with words, this means that you can clearly have what the setting looks like in your mind when you read that story. The setting of a story is one of the most important part in a story. Without a setting, the story will only be characters doing actions. There will be no places for them to do the actions, obviously this will make the story really boring.

Setting

Take China for example, when I visited China last year it was during winter. The weather was cold and dry, the wind is just like an ice blade cutting on your face. You can feel the wind actually "hitting" you, it was extremely cold, After about fifteen minutes in the wind, your face turns red and starts to hurt. You smell the dry air around you, it smells like... nothing. You can hear the wind blowing into your ears, it was really painful to stand in the cold weather. The wind was blowing hard, the climate was dry, and it is very cold. When the climate is dry, it feels like it is going to rip your face apart. The cold climate and the mercy-less wind is a horrible combination. It makes you want to be in your hotel at that second. You can taste the dryness of the air with your tongue, you feel like drinking water after every time you swallows. Even though it was pain when we were outside walking on the streets, it is still a fun experience to visit China. As long as you wear a warm winter jacket and a hat, you'll be alright during the winter of China.

What I don't like About this Class

There isn't a lot of things I don't like about this class. Compare to the other class that I had, this class is not as bad as the others. What I'm comparing includes homework, classwork, and other in-class events. For this class, it is fun how you make jokes to let us have a fun class. Even though we have quizzes every Thursday, but it is not that hard. Basically this class didn't gave me a lot of pressure comparing to the other classes. Take life science for example, we have tons of homework every class and we have difficult chapter tests too. Compare to this class, the story tests are a lot more easier then the science tests. As long as you read the story and know the definition of the vocabulary words, you'll do fine on the test. The amount of homework for this class is not that much either, most of the homework assessments are the reading quizzes. As long as you read the novel we're reading it is quite easy to do, but there are disadvantages about doing the reading quizzes on wikispaces. It is that sometimes it doesn't work, maybe your internet or your computer broke. Now you have to write it out yourself. So sometimes if we use paper all the time, there wouldn't be this problem.

Do The Right Thing

A definition of a hero is a person who is willing to help or sacrifice for other people when they have problems or troubles. Harriet Tubman is classified as a hero because she is willing to risk her life and help other in slaved people to escape from their slavery. If she get caught doing this, she will definitely get killed. Her goal is to bring the in slaved people north to Canada. She used her underground railroad system to travel to Canada, which is a promise land to all the in slaved people. During the travel, there are people who are willing to help these people who are escaping. They gave them food to eat and a warm place to stay for the night. After a month, they finally arrived at their promise land, Canada.
Barbara Fritechie is also classified as a hero, when the Confederate troops are marching into their town, she bravely raised the American flag at the troop. All the soldiers are ready to shoot at the Barbara, but the general stopped the soldiers that are ready to shoot. He is doing the right thing, so the general can be also classified as a hero. 

Standing Up for Your Belifs

In the 1900s Americans believed that African Americans are a lowered level people. The Americans made rules that are unfair to the African Americans such as, they can't sit in the front of the bus, or they can't go to certain public places. These rules are obviously unfair, but the African Americans can't change this. There was a African American called Malcolm X, he was a hero to the African Americans. He is a public speaker about human rights, he believed that all people are equal. He made speeches about how he thinks that African Americans and Americans should be equal, and how they unfair rules should be removed. He's beliefs changed the life of the African Americans, he is a hero to the African American people.

I have a belief that if you try hard, you can be successful. Maybe you are not good at a subject of event at first, but if you practice from time to time, you can be good at that thing. Keep trying, don't just quit all of a sudden, be patient it's quite hard to be good at one thing in a short time. You have to believe in yourself in order to be successful. 

Cinderella Story

I use to know a student who came to our school a couple years ago, he came from a local school, so this means his english is not as good as students that had studied in this school. He is basically the start of Cinderella, but after more and more practice he started to improve his english level. After a couple years, he is now really great at english. He can read, write, speak, and listens to english very well. Now he is the Cinderella at the end of the story, a happy ending.
When I started playing tennis, I use to play with a group of friends every weekend, but all of my friends had played tennis for more then 3 years. When I started to play with them, I'm am the person who misses every time. I started practicing more and more, after a couple of months I started to be able to rally with my friends. Now I can play fully with my friends. Even though you might be bad at a thing at first, it doesn't mean that your going to be bad at doing it for the rest of your life. Practice takes time, but it's worth it.

Hero Biography

Everyone have their own hero, and how they think a hero is. To me, my mom is my hero. The reason that I choose my mom as my hero is because, she is the person who raised me, helped me when I have problems, and take good care of me. My definition of a hero is a person who helps people when they have troubles or problems, so basically my mom fits my definition of a hero. To me, she is the most helpful person that I know. Even though some people thinks that heros are suppose to have special powers, like super man or bat man, but to me my heros doesn't need special powers. They just need to be helpful and willing to sacrifice for someone in able to solve their problem. The second reason I choose my mom as my hero is because that my dad is usually out of town. He only comes back about once in a couple months. Even though I don't live with him so often, but he is still helping me, just not physically. He makes money for us which supports our family. The money goes to what we need for food, transportation, and for education. So I should say my dad is one of my heros too. Everyone have different point of views of heros.

Leaving Everything Behind

There was a horrible disaster that happened this year, it was the 88 flood. It was a horrible flood that happened in the southern part of Taiwan. At first, it was just a bad flood, but after weeks the flood became a horrifying landslide. People, cars, houses got buried under all the mud and soil that had slide down to the town. Mud rushed into houses, and destroying everything in it's path. The mud slide covered the whole town, it reached the second floor of most houses. The villagers are lost all their belongings and even their own home. They are forced to move out of the town to live somewhere else where the government have gave them. Power shovels and bulldozers are clearing out the mud that has ruined the town, some villagers were standing next to the power shovels and bulldozers to see if they dug something that belongs to them. This made me think of another disaster that had happened in Taiwan about a year ago, it was a typhoon that strike the southern part of Taiwan. The typhoon was so powerful that it destroyed the whole town, just like the town that had been destroyed by the flood. The place where the town use to be, it's a flat plain now. Everything is gone, houses, car, and a lot of villagers died from the typhoon. Most of them got burred  under rocks and mud. These were the two main disasters that had happened in Taiwan.

The Promise Land

The reason why Hariette Tubman is like Moses is because both of them help people to get to their promise lands. According to the bible, Moses brought thousands of Egyptians to the place where everyone is free and relaxed, which is their promiseland. The Egyptians are use to be treated harshly, they are inslalved and forced to build buidings and work in the farmlands. After Moses brought them to their promise land, everyone is free and relaxed. No more being forced to work, everyone worked for themselves. People lived a peaceful life. Hariette Tubman risked her life to rescue the inslved people from their slavery. Hariette Tubman had a underground railroad system that brings inslaved people to freedom. Which to the inslaved people, is their promise land. People like Moses and Hariette Tubman are helpful people that everyone wants. Even though they don't get paid to do all this helpful things, but they still do it. Both of them saved the inosent people from the injustices. Now people call these kind of people heros.

Why Risk Your Life?

A person like Haritte Tubman, who is aready free, is willing to help other inslaved people escape from their pain. She is just not a person who we can describe as "nice". When black people are still inslaved, they are forced to work, clean, and do whatever their masters told them to. Sometimes they are forced to work at a farm, clean the house, do all kinds of houseworks, and sometimes even cook for the family their serving. If  the slaves don't do what their master want them to do, they will get whiped. This is really unfair, now people thinks that everyone's equal, but back in the times, people thinks that black people are a level lower then them. Hariette Tubman makes me think of volunteers who is willing to help the city in anything and without getting paid. Volunteers sometimes help the city clean the roads, help the elderlys. These people are just like Hariette Tubman, they are willing to help even though they won't get paid. If Hariette get cought when she is helping slaves escape, she will get killed easily. The slaves who were help by Hariette Tubman should be extreamly thankful to Hariette beacuse she risked her life to save people who she doesn't know.

For the Sake of Freedom

People always want freedom, freedom is basically how you wanted to live. People have fight about freedom since the 1800s, such as slavery. American's use to make African Americans to be their slave, they force them to do work such as, working in the farm, clean the house, and other chores. Of course, if they don't obey their master, they will get whipped. Sooner or later, the slaves all figured out a plan to escape from their masters. There was this African American named Harriet Tubman, she is the planned for the escape. They designed a underground railroad system to let the slaves escape from their master. Harriet Tubman help hundreds of slaves to escape. The American's kept the African American's as slaves, this means that the slaves lost their freedom. After the slaves had enough, they planned to escape.

What Happened?!

After Billy tasted a bittery almond taste in his tea, it was too late. He started feeling sick and sleepy. After a few seconds, he fainted suddenly and lying on the floor. The landlady smiled evily with a scary looking grin. She picked Billy up, and started to carry him towards the 4th floor. When she reached the 4th floor, there is a really strong smell that smells like rotten living things. When the landlady turned on the lights, there were two men hanging from the celling (which is the two guests that use to live in the boarding house). They looked pale and ice cold. Both of them are obviously stuffed, just like the landlady's dog. As soon as the landlady reached a hospital bed, she put Billy on the bed who is still unconchous. She took out a knife out from her pocket, and stab it directly towards Billy's heart. After that, she took off all his clothes, and cut a stright line from his chest down to his belly button. Then she started pulling all the organs and the other things in his body. After a short 30 minutes, billy is dressed and stuffed just like the two other guests. Billy now is offically a new collectoins of the landady.

Stuffed Pets

When the landlady said "I stuff all my little pets myself when they past away." It's basically hinting that Billy is going to end up getting stuffed by the landlady if he keeps living in the boarding house. From what Billy saw both of the guests has disappeared. There might be a reason that they are gone, maybe they had been stuffed like the dog that the landlady owned. There might be a answer for the floor that the landlady doesn't want Billy to go to. The guest might be persevered there, and soon Billy is going to be the next one added to landlady's collections of tall, young, and handsome men. Even though it seems all fine from the beginning of the story, but it turns out the landlady is trying to keep Billy in her boarding house forever. For Billy, it's already too late for he to escape the landlady's boarding house. He haven't even realize that he is going to end up like the stuffed dog, but it looks really hard to tell that the landlady is a bad women from the great services she gave to Billy

The Landlady's Perfect Guest

The landlady seems more interested in tall, young, and handsome men, and they should be around the age of 17. Basically, she's more interested in men that looks nice and classy. From what Billy saw in the guest book, both of the guests are tall, young, handsome, and 17 years old. Does this means the landlady only want's these kinds of men? Probably. The reason the landlady wanted these styled men is probably she wanted to pretend that she has a son, so of course you want your son to look young and handsome. Or maybe she wanted to have a cozy feeling of being with a man. Even though she was nice to Billy, but from what Billy knew the two guests that use to live in the boarding house all disappeared or got lost. Those guests might be preserved by the landlady, or get stuffed by her just like her dog. Even tho the boarding house is a really nice place to stay, but it's a trap.

The Landlady - Predictions

The first time I started to suspect things are going to be wrong in the boarding house is when the Billy walks in and he was about the say "I need a room to stay", and right after that the Landlady said I got a room ready for you already. She even got everything he needed for the stay. Even though the landlady looked and acted nice in the beginning, but things are started to go wrong right after Billy start staying at the boarding house. Soon Billy started to find out things wrong with this boarding house, such as names of guests who use to live in the boarding house and it seems like all of the guests had disappeared after they moved in the boarding house. Sooner or later I believe Billy is going to try to run away form the boarding house, because he doesn't want to end up dying or disappearing on his businesses trip. But unfortunately Billy didn't escape form the boarding house, he is stuck living there forever.

Bed and Breakfast

When I looked in the window of the window of the hotel I saw in the village I entered, it's called "Bed and Breakfast". From the first look, it just gave me a warm feeling when i'm standing in the cold weather. I see a nice and cozy fireplace, a little white kitten lying in front the fire place. There are some brown leather sofas on a piece of carpet. A mid sized table with a green glass vase with red and white roses in there. These things gave a a great and warm feeling of living in this hotel.

Dear Mr.Advice
I have a huge problem. I am suppose to go on a date, and I was planning to take her biking but when I was cleaning my bike, i accdently broke my bycicle chain and my brother won't let me borrow his bike. So now I don't have a bike for her and myself. What should I do on the date? Please Help me.

Broken Chain - Thinking Critically

Most of the girls we know are all shy and and kinda weak, they wanted to look good and act like a girl, not  playing sports like what boys do. But Alfono is an exception, he want's himself to look good. For example, he uses his fingers to push his teeth in place when he sees them crooked, he looked him self in the mirror, and he wants to color his hair like the rockstars in the magazines. But to me most of the boys I know will want to do the things Alfono wanted to do too. 

Popularity V.S. Intelligence

There's good things and bad things about being popular. The adventage is that you have more friends and you can have more fun, but the disventage is that if something imbarassing happened to you all of your friends are going to know really fast and soon the whole school is going to know what happened. After that your going to be deeply imbarassed. There are good and bad parts of being intelligence, the good thing is that you can do your homework assassinments and tests really good and you can get great grades. The bad thing is that people might call you a nerd or a geek because you are so good at doing homework and tests. People sometimes need to sacrifice to fit in with the people that they want to fit in. Such as, if you want to join a popluar and cool group of people, you will want to buy some cool clothes or some cool shoes to fit in.
I would rather be popular instead of being intelligence, because I want to have a fun life with friends and lots of people. Not just studing and doing homework.

Broken Chain Quickwrite

Now thirteen and fourteen year olds seems to think that they should look better to be popluar, so now they care more about how they look more then how they act to people. Such as, they think about what clothes they are going to wear, and how they're hair should look. Now some thirteen and fourteen year olds thinks that they are the best or they look the best, or even both. Sometime that's what I feel about my self too, but now, I think think it's kind of weird to think that your the best from everyone. You should learn to compare youself to other people, so you can know the things you can improve from youself. Not just saying that your the best.
